Take Those TRTP Towers Down!

Photo of crowd cheering when CPUC voted
Today, July 11, 2019, is the sixth anniversary of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) decision to require Southern California Edison to take down 15 of 18 200-foot tall tubular steel poles in the 3.5 mile Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project (TRTP) route through Chino Hills, and to require SCE to underground the power lines. Busloads of Hope for the Hills members and City leaders traveled to San Francisco for the CPUC hearing, and a viewing party was held at City Hall. The vote was a stunning reversal! When CPUC President Michael R. Peevey announced the ruling, he said, “Today the people won!” Stop by Hope for the Hills Park, 1999 Avenida Cabrillo, and view the plaque that commemorates the seven-year battle waged by the City of Chino Hills and active residents who fought tirelessly. Hope for the Hills Park, where the first tower was installed and the last tower was taken down, was renamed to celebrate how the people of Hope for the Hills, with perseverance and unwavering faith in their cause, lived up to their motto:

“Together…..We CAN and WILL make a difference!”
