Traffic Signal Modification at Boys Republic Drive and City Hall Parking Lot

In the current configuration, the traffic signal of Boys Republic Drive and City Hall Parking Lot operates with a push button initiating a flashing yellow phase for traffic along Boys Republic Drive. The intersection services pedestrian traffic across Boys Republic Drive to and from City Hall Parking Lot. During peak hours, as pedestrians initiate flashing phase, pedestrian traffic will cross, and vehicular traffic will queue until intersection is clear. Staff has observed pedestrians crossings at unsignalized intersection resulting in excessive delays. Staff evaluated intersection and has recommended the installation of improvements for a pedestrian hybrid beacon. A pedestrian hybrid beacon is a special type of hybrid beacon used to warn and control traffic at an unsignalized location to assist pedestrians in crossing a street at a marked crosswalk. The proposed work will include the installation of pedestrian signal heads and diagonal decorative crossing.

Project Description:

The work comprises, but is not limited to: mobilization, traffic control, removal and construction of ADA access ramp, island passageway, sidewalk, curb and gutter, cross gutter and spandrel; construction of decorative crosswalk; cold mill and asphalt concrete overlay; installation of pedestrian hybrid beacons, pedestrian heads, and necessary appurtenances; adjustment of manhole; restoration of pavement markings, raised markers and striping; and other necessary work to complete the traffic signal modification and street improvements.
